Online therapy for Indians in Australia

Quietly exhausted. Visibly fine.
That gap is exactly where I work.

The pressure to succeed. The family back home. The loneliness you don’t talk about. It all adds up quietly — and most people carry it alone. I’m an ACA-registered therapist who spent 12 years in Melbourne. I understand this life from the inside. And I know what helps.

Does this sound like you?

Your body is already trying to tell you something.

Whether you’re a migrant, an expat, or supporting someone in transition, these signals matter.

Exhausted no matter how much you sleep Lying awake at 3am with a racing mind Headaches or chest tightness you can’t explain Feeling alone even in a full room Family pressure from back home that never lets up Visa stress you can’t share with anyone Not sure who you are outside work or family roles The same worries playing on repeat

If even one of these resonates — you’re already in the right place.

The gap nobody talks about

Most People in Australia who are struggling — never seek help.

It’s not because the need isn’t real. It’s because the system wasn’t built for you — and the stigma makes it feel safer to stay silent.

“Therapy is too expensive”

Sessions at ValueTherapy start at $49.99 — less than half the Australian average. No Medicare needed, no GP referral, no waitlist.

“What will people think?”

Asking for help is not weakness. It is the same pragmatic intelligence that got you here — applied to the most important system you have: your mind.

“A Western therapist won’t understand me”

That’s a fair concern. I grew up in India, built a career in Australia, and trained in evidence-based therapy. I work within your cultural frame — not against it.

These are solvable problems. That’s exactly why ValueTherapy exists.

Who I work with

Wherever you are in Australia — if this is your story, you’re in the right place.

The experience of living between worlds isn’t one thing. It depends on where you came from, why you’re here, and what you’re carrying.

International students

You came to build a future. Instead you’re holding up academic pressure, financial stress, and the weight of everyone’s expectations — alone, in a country that still feels foreign.

Visa stress Loneliness Academic pressure
most common
Skilled workers & professionals

You’re performing at work while silently enduring discrimination, a toxic environment, or a visa situation that means you can’t afford to speak up. The job is fine. You are not fine.

Workplace stress Identity Burnout
Spouses & accompanying partners

You moved for someone else’s opportunity. Now you’re isolated, financially dependent, and rebuilding an identity in a place that doesn’t yet feel like home. This is one of the most under-supported experiences in Australia.

Isolation Identity loss Dependency

Not sure which category fits? That’s fine — most people don’t fit neatly into one. Book a free call and we’ll figure it out together.

About Mrugank Patel

I’ve been where you are.
That’s not a tagline.

“For 12 years I was an Indian professional in Melbourne — Fortune 500 companies, good salary, no peace.”

Burnout wasn’t a buzzword for me. It was a wall I ran into at full speed. I found my way through psychotherapy — then spent three years studying it formally in Australia, became ACA certified, and built a practice around the people I understood best: Indians navigating the pressure of life in a Western country.

I work with ACT, CBT, and mindfulness-based approaches — but I apply them within a collectivistic frame. I won’t ask you to choose between your wellbeing and your family’s expectations. I’ll help you hold both.

1,000+ sessions completed. Clients across Australia, India, and internationally. The reason people stay is simple: I know what it feels like to be stuck here — and I know exactly what it takes to move.

What we work on

Evidence-based therapy, applied to the life you’re actually living.

Every approach is adapted to your cultural context — not a Western template applied to an Indian life.

Anxiety & stress

Racing thoughts, physical tension, the inability to switch off. We use ACT and mindfulness to break the cycle — not suppress it.

Migration & acculturative stress

The exhaustion of living between two cultures. Identity confusion, loneliness, the pressure to succeed at everything simultaneously.

Relationship counselling

Couples and individuals navigating conflict, communication breakdown, or the strain that relocation puts on relationships.

Career & workplace stress

Discrimination, burnout, visa-tied employment, the gap between who you are and what your job demands of you.

Depression & low mood

Persistent flatness, loss of motivation, the feeling that nothing will change. Structured, evidence-based work to find your way back.

Life transitions

New country, new role, new relationship status. When everything changes at once, having a consistent space to process matters.

Common questions

Things people want to know before they book.

answered first
Will seeking help affect my visa or immigration status?

No. Seeking mental health support in Australia is completely confidential under the Privacy Act 1988. Nothing from your sessions is reported to the Department of Home Affairs, your employer, or any immigration authority. Your visa status is entirely unaffected. This applies to all visa types — student, skilled worker, partner, and permanent resident.

Do I need a GP referral or Mental Health Treatment Plan?

No. You can book directly without seeing a GP first. There is no referral process, no waiting list, and no Medicare billing required. This makes access significantly faster and simpler than the standard Australian pathway.

How is online therapy different from in-person?

The research is clear: online therapy produces outcomes equivalent to in-person therapy for anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship issues. You attend from wherever you are — home, office, or anywhere private. Many clients find it easier to open up without being physically in a clinical space.

I’ve never done therapy before. What happens in the first session?

The first session is a free 30-minute clarity call — no clinical intake, no forms, no pressure. You tell me what’s going on and what you’re hoping for. I’ll explain how I work and whether I think I can help. If we’re a good fit, we agree on a plan and book from there. If not, I’ll point you toward someone who is.

Do you understand Indian culture and family dynamics?

Yes — and this matters more than most therapists will tell you. I grew up in India, spent 12 years as a professional in Australia, and have worked with Indian clients across both countries for over a decade. I don’t ask you to choose between your family’s expectations and your own wellbeing. I work with both.

Can we do sessions in Hindi?

Yes. Sessions are available in both English and Hindi. If you feel more comfortable expressing yourself in Hindi — especially for emotionally complex topics — that’s completely fine.
